THAT IS NOT HOW THE ATTORNEY-CLIENT RELATIONSHIP WORKS
An attorney’s job is to give you advice, particularly with respect to the legality and/or lawfulness of certain actions. The attorney does not make major decisions like that. Clients have the ultimate say on things like settlements and payments. An attorney CANNOT settle a client’s case without the client’s consent. Attorneys make decisions like “we need to file a complaint” or “we should handle this in private mediation or arbitration” or “this is the discovery we need”. They will give advice on what they think the value of a case is, but if a client wants to accept less or demand more… the attorney has to abide by that decision.
Also, Trump directly threatened Stormy Daniels on twitter with arbitration proceedings stemming from what he claimed was an NDA “in full force and effect.” Now he’s claiming this whole thing was done without his knowledge or participation?
Mr. Cohen, an attorney, received a monthly retainer, not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign, from which he entered into, through reimbursement, a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement, or NDA. These agreements are…..

OMG! I couldn’t get past his part about vagina/vulva. I have daughters. From the beginning, I taught them vulva because that’s what it is. They didn’t even know what a vagina was until later because they didn’t notice it!
I did this very purposefully. My daughters were going to grow up knowing the correct names of the parts of their body, period. There is nothing shameful about any of it, and deciding not to name something correctly silently indicates that there must be something “wrong” with it. Nope. I wasn’t going to do that.
Additionally, on the chance that anyone ever dared to touch them inappropriately, they needed to have the language to be able to tell someone exactly what happened. There was not going to be any of that “hoo-ha,” “bottom,” “va-jay-jay” nonsense going on. My ex-husband (and at the time an anatomy teacher!) had a problem with me teaching them the correct terms because he was afraid they were going to say out loud in public something like, “My vulva itches.” Oh, the horror! I explained to him that having the girls say instead, “My hoo-ha itches” just sounds ignorant, stupid, and everyone STILL knows what they are talking about! Moron.

Some people’s brains are broken.
So, right now, in Czech Republic, we’re having a problem with beef and chicken meat coming from Poland; Czech agriculture inspectors have found Salmonella enterica contamination and unfortunately, the ČR imports about 80% of its chicken and beef from Poland.
This problem stems entirely from Poland - apparently, their food safety standards are a joke. Of course, now the Poles are screaming bloody blue murder that the Czechs are inspecting meat products for contamination. Indeed, earlier today, the EU told the Czechs to quit inspecting Polish meat imports by the end of next week*, as they’re saying it’s a violation of free trade. Of course, on this matter, the Czechs did the right thing and told the EU to go pound sand, and I entirely agree, as food safety standards are highly important. The Czechs have no intention of backing down either - they’ll take it all the way to the European Court of Justice if they have to.
(*many Czechs are wondering why the hell the EU isn’t telling Poland they need to up their game in regards to enforcing proper food safety standards…..and yes, IMHO, that’s a damned good question)
TL;DR - the Poles are sending us shit and Brussels is more upset that we’re complaining about it instead of telling Poland they need to crack down.

Going to drop a gripe here about Gale.
I went to see Walter Trout and him a few weeks back. Trout was great, very entertaining and the band was really tight. Gale, while an awesome guitarist wasn’t fun to watch. He showboated the entire show, his ego shined through every piece he did. Plus he has his wife as part of the band, she has a mini drum kit and hits a snare or cowbell once in a while.
He isn’t there to entertain the audience, he’s there so we can bask in his greatness. As you can tell it annoyed me.

re: #101 NO SMOCKING GUN!
The wording for impeachment is high crimes and misdemeanors.
That bar has precedent. Lying about sexual relations was considered a high crime or misdemeanor. Obstruction of justice is a high crime/misdemeanor.
That means that any felony crime - and Trump is alleged to have done nothing but felonies here (obstruction, witness tampering, tax fraud, money laundering, wire fraud, mail fraud, etc., conspiracy against the US) - and each by itself would be worthy of an article of impeachment.
And practically all of those named above of them were as a result of his seeking the White House or trying to remain within the WH.
Moreover, it appears that Trump’s strategy is to try and win reelection to delay the inevitable prosecutions that are piling up.
RICO needs to come crashing down on the Trump Empire.

All I did was share what NBC reported. Had one MAGAtard on my fb friends list jump in to say “Kim said he just learned about it” as a defense of Trump (this guy would support trump even if he shot someone) me and another friend schooled him on the fact that Kim would definitely know that they had an American prisoner who was tried as a “spy”. He couldn’t defend any of it and disappeared. A few others that I know are MAGAtards haven’t said a word, I think they get that Trump was wrong (they’re not dumb) but cat has got their tongue when it comes to saying it.
re: #91 HappyWarrior
So when does Trump attack them as ungrateful and then bash Otto himself?
Oh, it’s inevitable. Trump is also capable of bashing the parents for daring to speak out against him.
His red-meat idiot base will eat it up and Useless Senate Stooge Portman will do nothing but the fake furrowed brow.

That’s basically what I said. Of course Kim knew how Otto was treated. His story was international news and Kim is an outright dictator rather than China which is more of a dictatorship by party than ruler.

Post term abortion.
Aka murder. Any person born alive who is killed is treated as a homicide. Doesn’t matter if the person is 40, 80, or 4 hours old.

HAMILTON, Ohio — A judge has ruled an Ohio school district’s policy allowing trained teachers and staff to carry concealed weapons in school doesn’t need to require the many training hours required of police.
A Butler County judge ruled Thursday in a lawsuit parents filed against Madison Local Schools. The suit sought to prevent arming employees completing fewer than the 700-plus hours required of peace officers. The district policy requires fewer than 30 hours.
The judge did allow parents to have policy documentation they sought.

Someone posted a story from about 100 years ago in the Carpatho-Rusyn FB group I’m a member of about this one Senator who wanted to ban immigrants from Eastern Europe. Some people had the correct response which was we should be the same way to immigrants of today to the usual wingnutty shit “Well he was a Democrat which means blah blah” or “We assimilated and they didn’t.” I posted this and it by far has gotten the most likes post so far. Gives me a lot of relief. It’s meant to be a fairly apolitical group though with that ethnicity there is always going to be some politics given questions about Rusyns being their own unique cultural group or Ukrainians.
Today’s immigrants are assimilating. I went to school with El Salvadorans, Iranians, Peruvians, Indians, Vietnamese, you name it. The same charge that “they won’t assimilate” was thrown at ours too. I’m not going to get too political here but let’s not throw the same baseless charges at people who want the same dream for their children that our grandparents and great grandparents wanted for us.

I think Gosnell may be part of the genesis but it really does have more to with the Virginia and New York legislation that are being completely mischaracterized by the usual suspects.

It is so frustrating seeing people continue to act like today’s immigrants won’t assimilate. Let me go with you by my family and immediate experience today alone. My sister in law owns a business with my brother. My sister in law’s older sisters both have their Masters and one has a husband who is a law student. Oh and today I went to breakfast at a mom and pop El Salvdaroan place owned by an El Salvadoran immigrant. And you know what, my experience is far from unique. Other immigrants serve in the military, teach in our schools, are our doctors, and they’re just as part of the community as someone born the US originally. They just have a different place they started. The people who insist immigrants don’t assimilate in my experience have the least actual experience with them.

re: #170 HappyWarrior
And American culture is flexible enough to allow for assimilation. You don’t have to give up everything to do so. Keep your religion, music, food, even clothes-and a lot of people not your group enjoy you sharing them with them. As long as you believe in democracy, you’re fine. And birthright citizenship helps here. Immigrant parents have a stake in making sure their kids assimilate because they can make a real home here for their kids.

I used to be a fan of Greenwald’s back when he ran Unclaimed Territory. I started to sour on him when he really developed the “I’m THE smartest guy in the room” (which always sets my radar off) and he became more hysterical in the face of any kind of pushback on his ideas. It became very offputting. Now, any liberal or progressive that believes he’s a firend of the movement needs to have his/her head examined. At best, he’s an annoying contrarian for contrarian’s sake. I was doing some digging on Greenwald and saw this from the opening paragraph out of a New Yorker Story from last year (see link below).
I figured he had been knocked off the MSNBC list of contributors, but this may have hinted as to why.
…
During the past two years, he has further exiled himself from the mainstream American left by responding with skepticism and disdain to reports of Russian government interference in the 2016 Presidential election. On Twitter, where he has nearly a million followers, and at the Intercept, the news Web site that he co-founded five years ago, and as a frequent guest on “Democracy Now!,” the daily progressive radio and TV broadcast, Greenwald has argued that the available evidence concerning Russian activity has indicated nothing especially untoward; he has declared that those who claim otherwise are in denial about the ineptitude of the Democrats and of Hillary Clinton, and are sometimes prone to McCarthyite hysteria. These arguments, underpinned by a distaste for banal political opinions and a profound distrust of American institutions—including the C.I.A., the F.B.I., and Rachel Maddow—have put an end to his appearances on MSNBC, where he considers himself now banned, but they have given him a place on Tucker Carlson’s show, on Fox News

You might want to look at the recent results in local elections. Three blue-to-red swings in Connecticut and Minnesota, no red-to-blue. If you want the nonsocialist vote to be entirely a Republican preserve, well, that’s what you’ll get.
None of them live in those places. Where they do live, they won. Funny that, eh?

That New Yorker article on Greenwald I linked in #190 is pretty good.
Glenn more or less admits he argues for the point of arguing and that he is a contrarian.
He really has a problem with guys like John Brennan being on a network like MSNBC. He obviously hates American intelligence agencies and thinks the Democrats have gotten in bed with all of them because of love for Clinton and hate for Trump.
He still hangs his hat on what he did with Snowden and I have a feeling that is why he is protective of Russians, they helped out his boy from being taken in by the US intelligence and government.
He is messed up in the head. I don’t think he is capable of thinking in the isolation of a singular situation because he wants to generalize for sake of argument.

His point appears to be “socialism” like those three are apparently being attached to without and subtlety caused the Democrats to lose those races and that if we continue down that socialists path we are going to lose more and keep Trump in office.
Brian J is very much a conservative in thinking. I bet he just hates Social Security and Medicare.

His apparent belief that governments shouldn’t have intelligence apparatuses and that there should something approaching 100% transparency on all matters is idiotic on about 300 levels.

So that’s kind of the opposite of Henry Stimson’s “Gentlemen don’t read other gentlemen’s mail”….
It’s Friday afternoon, with no significant chatter on a Mueller drop. It’s quiet out there…
Another gem paragraph from the New Yorker Greenwald article linked in #190.
…
These critiques have changed Greenwald’s place in American political life. “My reach has actually expanded,” he told me. “A lot of Democrats have unfollowed me and a lot of conservatives or independent people have replaced them, which has made my readership more diverse, and more trans-ideological, in a way that’s actually increased my influence.” His audience now ranges from leftist opponents of Hillary Clinton, such as Susan Sarandon and Max Blumenthal, to right-wing figures such as Sebastian Gorka and Donald Trump, Jr.
…

More trans-ideological, in the sense of an extremist freakshow.

I’m waiting on news Stone has been arrested for violating his gag order.
re: #219 ObserverArt
It sounds as if his followers are a-holes just like him. Good for him for finding a way to maximize his reach to awful people like Neo Nazi Gorka and Russian asset Donald Jr.
Sorry…another bit from Greenwald article. This one is very interesting.
Glenn is credited for “creating” a hot political term currently used a lot and probably a huge hit at CPAC right now.
…
To protest the flouting of American norms is to disregard America’s perdition—from drone strikes and unwarranted surveillance to the Democratic Party’s indebtedness to Wall Street and Silicon Valley. Shortly before Trump’s Inauguration, Greenwald wrote an article for the Intercept titled “The Deep State Goes to War with President-Elect, Using Unverified Claims, as Democrats Cheer.” The Drudge Report promoted the article, and it went viral. This had the effect of offering the phrase “deep state”—which, until then, had been a murmur among political scientists and fringe bloggers—as a gift to Trump defenders. Roger Stone referred to the article in an interview with Alex Jones, on Infowars; Greenwald spoke of “deep-state overlords” on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” According to data from the gdelt Project, the phrase “deep state” then took off—first on Fox, then on other networks, and then in the tweets of the President and his family.
…
Amazing how EVERY SINGLE ONE of Trump’s long-time advisers, close associates, and confidants ends up being attacked by him as a liar and a “rat” as soon as they start telling the truth about his criminal schemes. https://t.co/B3lUt6Ix0C

Hmmm…. maybe the House should expand their investigation of clearances to include getting Gorka under oath.
Gorka is a dipshit and this is funny, but Congress should investigate if he was routinely in classified meetings without a clearance. That’s a real problem. pic.twitter.com/cYcW5H6e62

Sounds like a real good idea too. He had no business in any hearing where classified info was discussed. He couldn’t get clearances in Trumpworld. That’s how awful his credentialing must have been.
Donald Trump sure seems to hang around with a lot of liars, crooks and rats. I wonder why they’re drawn to him?

Clearances don’t mean shit in Trumpworld, apparently. Trump just lets whoever do whatever as long as he likes them.

On FB, comments of acquaintances/friends who are members of the DSA and Bernie Bros openly insult moderates and so-called “corporatists” and insist only true progressives should be supported and only progressives were behind the 2018 victories. We have to be welcoming to all brands of Democratic thought — even if it means supporting Manchin.

True,, true. The Nazi Next Door.
That would make a good title to an interesting political comedy.
We could set it in a small village in the flats of Nebraska.
We may already have a good sketch of the characters.

Yeah here’s how I’d do it. Suspend your disbelief a little. In the story, this little village has no idea who the Nazis are or events of 1933-1945 so Nazi Neighbor is eccentric but maybe not an outright pariah.

Brian J is very much a conservative in thinking. I bet he just hates Social Security and Medicare.
I doubt that Brian sees himself as conservative. What he reminds me of is one of Jon Svitavsky’s cultist collection of cranks on Facebook*, united by their shared hatred of Bernie Sanders (who, for the record I find a faux revolutionary fraud much too dismissive of core democratic constituencies with very few accomplishments to his name) and any Democrat they feel has betrayed the party by occasionally cooperating with Sanders on legislation or incorporating some of his ideas including, but not limited to, Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Kamala Harris.
When I broke contact with the Svitavsky-ites, they were obsessed with AOC in much the same manner that Brian is over here. (Why was I following the Svitavsky-ites, you may ask? One of the candidate’s brothers is an old friend of mine and he was running against Bernie, but his campaign was a train wreck and after a while, I couldn’t look away from it.)

I think he hates Bernie so much he’s willing to hold a grudge anyone who has supported him or some of his ideas. And I think that’s actually approaching things more like Bernie himself would funnily enough.
